Fear

There is such an interesting relationship between excitement and fear. I know the rush of doing something absolutely terrifing, but I never really understood why. The adrenalin gets you out of trouble, and then seems to reward you with euphoria when things go well. Where's the evolutionary payoff for being led to fear-causing (therefore death-causing) situations?
